With Takashimaya Department Store being the anchor tenant at Ngee Ann City, it is no surprise that there are many Japanese restaurants at Takashimaya Shopping Centre. Here are some of them.
Hanare by Takayama
Hanare by Takayama is a new restaurant at Takashimaya Shopping Centre. It is said to be award-winning Chef Taro Takayama’s newest concept which features traditional and homey dishes that highlight seasonality-driven and exquisite ingredients. We love their signature dish, the Kamameshi, a speciality mixed rice cooked in a traditional individual iron pot and prepared with seasonal produce. Read more.

The Sushi Bar
The Sushi Bar is a popular Japanese restaurant at Takashimaya. Long queues are not uncommon during peak hours. It located on level 5 near Best Denki. Mizuki
Mizuki Japanese restaurant at Takashimaya shopping centre is a very posh restaurant on level 5 of Ngee Ann City. It only serves fixed course tempura and sushi courses. These are file pictures of their menu. You can find current menus on the Mizuki restaurant website (link below).

Another popular kiosk at Takashimaya basement 2 is TORI Q yakitori. They once had a robotic system to handle the chicken skewers over the grill. But these days, it is all done by human. TORI Q is strictly take away only and is not a dine in restaurant.

In the past two years many new Takashimaya food outlets have opened in the form of cafes. Here are some of these new cafes and a classic one.
You Are My Sunshine Cafe
You Are My Sunshine Cafe is related to the trendy You Are My Sunshine Beauty Salon which is just across the corridor from the cafe. Together, it is said to be “the biggest beauty and lifestyle mecca in Singapore with 8,000 square feet of space that houses a full service beauty salon,an Korean-Western fusion cafe and a retail space of tastefully curated home and beauty collections”.

On their website, Matchaya describes themselves as “We are the way of tea — the way to the source and providing tea for every occasion so that everyone can enjoy tea”. Paul Cafe
Being one of the larger Takashimaya food outlets at Ngee Ann City, this popular French cafe needs no introduction. They take up a big space on level 3 but that is easily filled up during peak periods.

Drips Bakery Café
A branch of Drips Bakery Café in Tiong Bahru, the DRIPS cafe in basement. Like its mothership, it is a cosy cafe that is not dressed to impressed. Rather it is a nice spot to spend a lazy afternoon – enjoying coffee and tart and forgetting about the crazy world for an hour or so.

According to their website, “MOS Cafe was conceptualised as a flagship cafe that caters to the lifestyle of our customers.” The MOS Cafe menu is said to be driven by a “fresh” concept using lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. and is made up of original Cafe items as well as items from the MOS Burger menu. Empire Fine Chinese Cuisine is one the newer Chinese restaurants at Takashimaya Shopping Centre in Ngee Ann City. Opened at the end of December 2020, this new Chinese restaurant is at level 5 and serves the full range of Chinese banquet dishes as well as simple dim sum selections. Takashimaya Food Places for Western Cuisine
Flipper’s
Famous souffle pancake restaurant from Japan opened at Basement One level of Takashimaya in November 2020 and has been drawing in the crowds since then. On the Takashimaya website, their pancakes are described as “utterly fluffy, pillow-soft and decadently melt-in-the-mouth”.

Ma Maison Cafe
Like Flipper’s, it was not easy to decide whether to describe Ma Maison as a Japanese restaurant or a Western restaurant. In the end we thought that they should be classified as Western restaurants as they are essentially Japanese interpretations of “Western” cuisine. Angus House
Angus House is also one of the oldest restaurants at Ngee Ann City. We believe it has been there since the opening of Takashimaya. The steaks at Angus Steak House are obviously the stars on the menu but they also have other types of food such as Japanese style spaghetti and risotto. Read more.
