Longtime East Rowan wrestling mentor Barry Justus was inducted into the North Carolina chapter of the Countrywide Wrestling Corridor of Fame in ceremonies held on Sunday in Chapel Hill.
Justus was elected as portion of the Course of 2020, but inductions had been delayed two several years by COVID.
At the time of his election, Justus was credited with 391 vocation wins, five conference championships, three 20-gain seasons and six Rowan County Event titles. 8 of his wrestlers wore state winner ribbons, a different 12 ended up runners-up and 38 were state put-winners.
Justus has been recognized not only for wrestling wins, but for his motivation, character and integrity.
Justus’ coaching tree includes West Rowan mentor Jonathan Brown and former North Rowan and Salisbury mentor Tim Pittman.
“My legacy is all of my former wrestlers who are out there coaching,” Justus mentioned when his election was introduced. “I’m just pretty appreciative and humbled about what everybody is performing and that I had some impact in their like for the sport. I have bought former wrestlers coaching everywhere, it would seem. I go to a wrestling event and we’ll have an East Rowan reunion. That usually means a ton.”
Justus will be enshrined at the National Wrestling Corridor of Fame & Museum in Stillwater, Okla.
Legend passes
Bobby Crouch, who led Boyden’s 21- 1957 3A state-championship victory versus Fayetteville with 171 dashing yards and two touchdowns, passed away on Monday in Mount Nice, S.C.
Crouch went on to play football for The Citadel.

Rowan County was rained out on Monday.
Greensboro and Rowan will make the game up on July 2 as section of a doubleheader at Newman Park.

North Rowan’s Tai’lah Ward was the Sprints MVP for the Central Carolina Convention, when North Rowan thrower Brittany Ellis was the Industry MVP.
North’s Aniya Brown, Bailee Goodlett, Bloom Goodlett and Azarea Miller produced all-conference.

Salisbury’s Marcus Cook dinner was the Subject MVP for the Central Carolina Conference, while Salisbury’s Todd Parker was voted CCC Mentor of the Yr.
Salisbury’s Deuce Walker, Jaylyn Smith, Jamal Rule, Mike Geter, Damien Brandon. Robert Moulton, Sean Younger, Jayden Gibson and Andrew Huffman manufactured All-CCC.
North Rowan’s Pharrell Hailey, Quintin Wilson, Jerome Blakeney, Kemon O’Kelly, Xavier Suber amd Amari McArthur created the All-CCC staff.
South Davidson’s William Lyons, a Catawba signee, was Length MVP for the CCC.

Salisbury’s Will Koontz is the Central Carolina Conference Player of the Calendar year.
Salisbury’s Colin Donaldson, Grey Davis, Reid Hlavacek, Kevin Williams and Wyatt Goodnight produced All-CCC.
Salisbury’s Milt Griffith was runner-up for CCC Mentor of the Yr behind West Davidson’s Thompson Skeen.
HS ladies soccer
Salisbury’s Sutton Webb, Hannah Schmeltzer, Kyna Zaldivar, Sage Huffman, Izzy Banish, Sydney Hlavacek, Stella Koontz and Madelyne Lawrence designed the All-CCC team.
Schmeltzer was named CCC Defensive Player of the Year. Webb was runner-up for CCC Offensive Participant of the Calendar year. West Davidson’s Allie Brown is the CCC Offensive Participant of the Yr. West Davidson’s Chris Brown is the CCC Coach of the 12 months.

Salisbury’s Hank Webb, Aiden Mowery, Kaleb Burleyson and Cole Selling price have been named to the All-Central Carolina Convention workforce, along with North Rowan’s Malakie Harris and Joseph Hartman.
West Davidson’s Clay Hunt is the CCC Player of the Calendar year. East Davidson’s Badin Gusa is the CCC Pitcher of the 12 months.

Bryson Bebber (South Rowan) has committed to St. Andrews University in Laurinburg to continue his baseball and tutorial job.
As a member of the Surry Group Faculty baseball workforce, the 1st baseman recently was named to the NJCAA Area 10 all-defensive workforce for the 2nd consecutive calendar year.
Regional golf
Michael Childress of Salisbury shot 70-72-70 to end 4-under and tied for fourth in the 7th Carolian Novice Championship at Keith Hills in Buies Creek.
