On the heels of Red Rocks releasing its annual Film on the Rocks lineup, the Denver food hall Avanti has announced its own seasonal movie series, with programming that actually slaps.
Thing is, after frequent pandemic-era drive-in movies, Red Rocks scaled down offerings this year to just five shows — with one in June and two each in July and August — all located back inside the amphiteatre rather than drive-in style at the parking lot.
Avanti, meanwhile, is screening about three times as many shows over the course of four months. A 30-foot screen goes up in the food hall’s courtyard, where movie-goers can set up for picnics. Or you can watch from the bleacher seating one story up on the hall’s rooftop.
In all, 14 throwback films will light up the big screen in Denver’s Lower Highland every Thursday at 9 p.m. from May 26 to Aug. 25.
Views might not be as breathtaking as at Red Rocks, but the movie options and sheer frequency of showings sure give it a leg up. As does the cost: It’s free to attend, just BYO camp chair.
Snack and drink specials also are on offer from the hall’s two bars and seven restaurants.
Check out the schedule for Avanti’s 2022 summer movie series below. Feel free to compare it to this year’s Film on the Rocks lineup.
